Historical and cultural heritage

One of the main attractions of Altea is its old town, known as the “Barrio Antiguo”. The cobbled streets and whitewashed houses with their wrought-iron balconies evoke the charm of Mediterranean architecture. The church of Nuestra Señora del Consuelo, with its characteristic two domes of blue tiles, is the symbol of Altea and offers a spectacular view of the town and the Mediterranean Sea from its square.

Altea is also a cultural reference point. The town is home to the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Miguel Hernández University and is known for being an important artistic centre in the region. Its art galleries, exhibitions and cultural events attract visitors and artists from all over the world, making Altea a hotbed of creativity and talent.
